"The dark secret of the neighbor is revealed."

The basement is the largest part of the house, this is the location the Neighbor attempts to keep the player from entering.

Appearance

Basement Door

In the Pre-alpha and Alpha 1, the basement door was a white wooden door blocked with a wooden board, and sealed with a padlock and number keypad. In Alpha 2, the basement door looked like a large metal door that could be opened with a valve, and was also blocked with a wooden board, but had a keycard reader in place of a number pad. In its current appearance, the basement door is a brown wooden door, which is keycard-controlled, nailed with boards and propped shut with a chair. The chair can simply be removed, but the keycard is frozen in a block of ice inside the Neighbor's freezer, and the crowbar is hidden on the third floor and heated with electricity.

Inside the Basement

Inside, the basement is a strange place; there are platforms, and large fans which require the player to double-jump to reach them and be holding an umbrella.

The player goes through an assortment of rooms. Firstly, they must drop into a small room with lots of cameras dangling on wires from the ceiling, and switch on a generator in order to open the gate. The Neighbor himself appears in order to chase the player, though he can only do so up to a certain point. The player must use their push and superthrow abilities to knock down the Neighbor and allow enough time for the gate to open. They must then run to the next section, double-jumping twice in order to get over a barricade of furniture. Be warned that if the player is not fast enough, the Neighbor can climb over the barricade and continue to chase the player, though they can go invisible to lose him once they are past the barricade. Then they must double-jump up a few platforms to turn on a generator, and then use their super-throw to hit the giant switch with one of the nearby objects, and then double jump towards the fan. At the final section, there is a shadow monster, and if it spots the player, it will walk towards them, growling and send them back. The player must climb a ladder, and run, double jump and go invisible and wait for it to pass, and then go through the door, which takes them to the final boss.

Trivia

  • In the Pre-Alpha, the door is blocked by wooden boards, a padlock and a keypad.
    • The code for the Pre-Alpha basement is "4785".
  • In Alpha 1 the basement reuses has the wooden boards but lacks a keypad.
    • Behind the basement door is a road picture, as seen from the "nightmare" sequence of the Neighbor entering it and then leaving after an explosion occurs inside.
  • In Alpha 2, the basement is developed and has several rooms. However, this version of the basement would not be playable in future version, and the basement itself was not in Alpha 3.
    • Curiously, there is a basement map in Alpha 3's game files consisting of a flat grassy area and a large bucket[1].
  • The basement in Alpha 4 is much harder to enter, the crowbar needs to be unheated, and the keycard is covered by ice that needs to be melted.
  • In Alpha 4, the player needs to double jump in the basement because the many platforms are distanced from each other.
  • The Neighbor may place a bucket trap on the door, even though there is little purpose for him to do so.
  • In the Beta, the basement's map is curiously omitted, its teleporter entity was not removed until Beta 2. (Currently, it's either being developed or replaced by a new one)
  • There are is a "new" minigames that is found on the basement's places like the giant neighbor.
